| Use the Travel Guides to Find Your Next Vacation |
Whether you have no idea where you want to go or just want further information, there are tons of great travel guides on line for any thing you may need and for any way you want to do your research.
Most of the travel guides though are completely different. One that will be good for basic information, may not be good for finding things to do. Use our guides list to learn about each of the better sites, what they offer and who they are good for. It's a pretty short list because we only list the sites that we would recomend and feel they are worth spending time on.
I know it's easy to keep going back to the same guide each time, but resist that urge. Instead, find the different sites for each of the instances below and get used to them so that you feel comfortable going to any of them. |
- Finding: If you have no idea where you want to go, most of the guides offer a map feature that allows you to click on the area you would like to see and continue drilling down to your final destination. Almost all of them have this, but I think the funnest one, (and isn't that what this is all about) is Lonely Planet. Their map feature and photos make it very interactive and fun. (this feature might force me to change my opinion on them)
- Exploring: if you are just browsing for your next vacation, or just wanting to explore where you will be going, find a site with a lot of pictures, videos and is very interactive. There is nothing like seeing it to get you excited. Our favorites are The Travel Channel and Travel Go with Lonely Planet as a good alternative.
- Basic Information: Getting down to the details is easy if you are on the right guide. Our obvious favorites are Frommers and Fodor's. Both are very well organized and will give you almost all the information you will "need".
- Planning: Getting down to the details takes a little more personalized information. Our hands down favorites are Trip Advisor and Virtual Tourist because they give us other travelers reviews. Take them with a grain of salt and compare over all comments not just one person, (they may have just had a bad day). Look for consistant themes or comments that keep appearing over and over. Those are the ones you want to take as true.
- Learning: After you have decided where, check one of the guides that provide articles on the destinations. Find the one that suits your personality or your style and use it to learn more than the basics about your destination. Knowing the culture at times can make your vacation much more enjoyable. Road Junky is our favorite just for their brutal honesty and off the wall topics. We can't list them all here, so you might want to do a search for "travel journal" + a few words that describe your personal style. We will try and add more of those as times goes on.

| That should get you started. The Guides List is also in the "Travel Directory" link in the menu bar above so jump around on the different guides every so often just to get another view point and above everything else, have fun. Planning your vacation should be almost as much fun as taking it. |
